Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs)

Infections in any part of the urinary system (kidneys, ureters, bladder, urethra), most commonly the bladder (cystitis). Caused by bacteria. Manifest as frequent, painful urination, burning sensation, lower abdominal pain, sometimes blood in urine. May indicate prophylactic supplementation with D-mannose, cranberry extract (proanthocyanidins), probiotics (Lactobacillus strains). Acute UTIs require antibiotics.

What may help (7)

  • Probiotics Supplements HighClinical

Probiotics, particularly specific Lactobacillus strains, can help prevent recurrent urinary tract infections by supporting a healthy microbial balance in the urogenital tract.

  • Adequate Hydration Practices MediumClinical

Adequate hydration helps prevent urinary tract infections by increasing urine flow, which effectively flushes out bacteria from the bladder and urethra. This mechanism reduces the opportunity for bacterial adhesion and proliferation, thereby lowering infection risk.

  • Garlic Supplements MediumClinical

Allicin-rich garlic offers antimicrobial properties that may help combat bacteria responsible for urinary tract infections, supporting bladder health.

  • Dandelion Root Supplements MediumPeople reports

Its diuretic and mild antiseptic properties make dandelion root a traditional choice for supporting urinary tract health and assisting the body's natural flushing of the urinary system.

  • Herbalism / Phytotherapy Practices HighTheoretical

Cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon) is a highly effective herbal intervention for the prevention of recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs). Its active compounds, proanthocyanidins (PACs), prevent bacteria from adhering to the urinary tract walls. Clinical studies consistently demonstrate a moderate effect (d=0.3-0.5) in reducing UTI recurrence, making it a well-supported prophylactic agent.

  • Naturopathy Practices HighTheoretical

Naturopathy effectively supports the prevention of recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs). D-mannose and cranberry extract (proanthocyanidins) demonstrate strong evidence in preventing bacterial adhesion to urinary tract walls, offering a high probability of reducing infection frequency. Probiotics also play a supportive role in maintaining urogenital flora.

  • Stay Hydrated Habits HighTheoretical

Staying well-hydrated helps prevent urinary tract infections by increasing the frequency of urination, which mechanically flushes bacteria from the bladder and urethra. This reduces the bacterial load and the risk of infection, supported by meta-analyses on recurrence prevention.

  • Iyengar Yoga Practices HighClinical

During acute, severe urinary tract infections with systemic symptoms, physical exertion from Iyengar Yoga can worsen discomfort and potentially complicate recovery. Rest and medical treatment are advised.
